Deerfield Beach

The City of Deerfield Beach dates to 1890, when the first settlement was made along the Hillsboro River. It was largely agricultural until after World War II, when the Florida East Coast Railroad and better roads, started attracting transplants from northern climates. Today, the City boasts a population of over 75,000 persons. The famous pier and Quiet Waters Park are among the many attractions in this beautiful city.

Deerfield Beach Social Security Disability Attorney Randy Zeldin, Esq., is available to represent claimants in appeals and reconsiderations of denied Social Security Disability claims. Attorney Randy Zeldin, Esq., represents claimants from Deerfield Beach and Ft. Lauderdale, before the Social Security Judges located in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

There are many criteria considered by Social Security Administration and Social Security Judges:

  1. The older the applicant, the more presumptions in their favor.
  2. The more education, the greater the transferability of skills.
  3. Restrictions range from, sedentary; light, medium, heavy and very heavy.
  4. Assessment of an applicant’s skills is defined as unskilled; semi-skilled and skilled.

Transferable skills are things learned on one job that can be used on another, different job. Individuals age 55 or over, who are limited to sedentary work and have skills transferable to sedentary occupations, are not disabled only if there is very little, if any, vocational adjustment required in terms of tools, work processes, work settings or the industry. Transferability is most probable among jobs that involve the same or less skill; the same or similar tools, machines, materials, processes, products or services.

In assessing transferability of skills, Deerfield Beach Social Security Disability Attorney Randy Zeldin, Esq. will assess some of the following characteristics of a claimant’s work history:

  • Weight Bearing: The maximum weight lifted or carried daily; the number of times per day of lifting or carrying the maximum weight. The objects which were lifted or carried daily.
  • Use of Machines, Tools or Equipment of Any Kind: Description of the machines, etc. used; technical knowledge or skills required for operation of machines, tools, etc.
  • Writing of Preparation of Reports: Nature of the reports prepared and frequency of the task. If the claimant ha supervisory responsibilities and the number of people supervised is also an important consideration.
  • Modification of Work Duties: Assessment of whether medical problems required changes in the number of hours worked, details of tasks performed, absenteeism from work, will be made.
  • Vocational Training: Evaluation includes skills obtained from on the job training or training in a school setting. The type of training received is crucial and whether the claimant obtained a license or certificate to engage in an occupation must be clarified. Any evaluations made by a State or private vocational agency should be obtained.
  • Military History: Branch of the military; duration of service, highest rank obtained, and skill set derived from training are crucial vocational indicators. Frequently, skills and experience attained in military service are transferrable to the civilian sector.
  • Education: Factors include, highest grade level, repetition of grade levels, participation special classes, GED or high school diplomas, reading ability and understanding of basic instructions; mathematical skills such as making change, adding and subtracting, multiplication and division; division/fractions.
